Our Services

IT/IS NextGen offers services and solutions that can make a profound difference in the success of our clients’ enterprises.  Our mantra is efficiency, effectiveness, and execution.  Our services range from strategic planning, through technical and engineering planning, to supporting the enterprise operations.

IT/IS brings a variety of disciplines to our project teams, which are focused on helping the client obtain a successful outcome to what may have been an optimistic business case. Strategic planning and systems/process engineering provide a starting point for a successful initiative, and a focus on long-term implementation results in the realization of value.

Taking a narrow view of the role of an organization, without also viewing the larger context of the enterprise, can lead to inefficiencies and ineffective use of enterprise resources – people, money, and time.  Our company perspective starts with the enterprise as a whole, and strives for a holistic view of the enterprise building blocks, the organizations and business functions.  An internal organization or business function can be viewed an “enterprise within an enterprise”.  We understand the inefficiency that may result from organizations acting to meet narrow goals (i.e., stovepipe mentality). While certain natural forces may inhibit creating and maintaining an efficient enterprise, our company goal is to provide the nuclear “glue” to overcome such forces.

Moreover, the industry has renewed emphasis on selecting those programs and projects that provide significant opportunities for creating shareholder value and improving financial results.

These areas display high degrees of complexity, scope, and technological change.  We are committed to creating effective solutions, in a timely fashion.

Improving Government Enterprises

IT/IS is strongly committed to assisting government enterprises improve the way they function.  Our professionals have experience in assessing areas for improvement, evaluating strategic options, and implementing change.  Our scope includes communications, computing technology and systems, processes, operations outsourcing, services/products, as well as policy development and evaluation.

Primary Service Areas:

Public Policy: Identify policy options with all relevant groups, prepare position papers, assess alternatives, and work to promote the selected policy. As needed, create quantitative computer models to assess impacts over several years.

Telecommunications Planning and Integration: Evaluate existing network architectures and identify where changes can improve the operation, reduce cost and improve alignment with strategic objectives. Identify customer needs that are being met, as well as those that are not being met. Collect usage and cost data concerning the current networks (i.e., wireline, wireless, voice, data, video) and develop detailed engineering/cost models to identify opportunities. Develop engineering models that allow for the evaluation of new technologies, and create multi-year financial models to guide choices. Prepare transition plans required to implement new architectures.

Enterprise Systems and Network Integration/Operations: Evaluate IT infrastructure and applications architectures and related operations for operational and cost effectiveness, and alignment with enterprise goals and objectives. Identify potential impacts of technology and human resources upgrades.

Business Process Re-engineering: Based on both an organizational and functional view of government operations and stated operational and policy goals, develop description of current process and identify needed process changes. Evaluate impacts and develop prioritized program of improvements. Facilitate the development of detailed process definitions, metrics, work flows, task descriptions, requirements for supporting software and training. Implement metrics tracking and continuous process improvement programs to assist process managers.

Vendor Selection and Management: Assist in development of requirements, vendor qualification, creating requests for information and requests for proposals and evaluating responses. Perform a scan of current and future technology options.

Independent Validation & Verification: Plan and conduct testing programs to assure that process and technology deployment works properly and supports the enterprise. This includes verifying that specifications are met by vendors supplying services or equipment and that processes meet enterprise goals and agreed upon metrics.

Network Security: Assess security policies, specifications, and implementation. Assess the security, survivability and business continuity of IT and network infrastructures and physical premises. Recommend security improvements and enhancements.

Project/Program Management: Facilitate the development of project and program measurements and goals. Coordinate and facilitate complex projects and programs.

Service Costs and Chargeback Billing Systems: In many cases, the billing systems used to bill internal users of services are not closely linked to the actual detailed billing from outside suppliers of IT and Telecom services. Legacy systems may have constraints that limit flexibility in the chargeback approach. Modern approaches, including the use of meta-software and new billing platforms that are economically suited for governments as well as medium-sized telecom providers, can offer substantial improvements in providing good service to internal customers. A new billing system, coupled with an economically attractive chargeback approach, can provide improved service and lower cost.

Financial Planning and Management: Develop multi-years views of capital and expense budgets, to attempt to maximize the value/benefit of planned expenditures. Facilitate use of business cases to evaluate benefits of alternatives. Use financial evaluation models to prioritize programs and investment options, using standard summary metrics. Use functional breakdown of government activities to achieve cross-functional optimization. Incorporate planning results into future budgeting.
